Since I've been running here I've crossed paths with untold number of deer and elk, three or four black bears, bobcats, racoons, rabbits, squirrels, chipmunks, bald eagles, and much more. Thankfully I've never crossed paths with a cougar! When I see elk or bears I start yelling out a cadence as I run and usually keep going. They invariably run off (except for the elk sometimes). I've very nearly run straight in to the side of an elk while running in the early morning darkness.
